Conference Location

The conference will take place at the University of Michigan – Dearborn. The primary venue for the conference will be Fairlane Center (North). Buses will transport conference participants to all local venues and will operate between the Ritz Carlton Dearborn hotel and the conference site.

Dearborn is adjacent to the city of Detroit. The Detroit International Airport offers frequent service especially via Northwest and KLM airlines. Conference attendees will receive information about attractions in the region via the conference web site and in their conference registration packets.

Conference Hotel

We have been able to reserve a block of rooms at a very favorable rate ($110 per night plus tax) at the Ritz Carlton Dearborn for T2M participants. The Ritz Carlton is also the closest hotel to the main conference venue. There will be a shuttle bus running in the early morning and the late afternoon between this hotel and the conference.

In order to take advantage of the T2M Conference rate, you must register no later than October 12, 2004*. After that date the group rate cannot be guaranteed.

* Note: The actual deadline is October 12, 2004 at 5 PM EDT (US Eastern Daylight Time, GMT -4 hours).

Note that the cost of the Ritz Carlton does not include breakfast. A simple breakfast will be available at the Fairlane Center each morning (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). In order to keep conference participants to the schedule we will also be including a simple lunch on site (Friday and Saturday). There will be no additional charge for these meals.

Special Conference Events and Excursions
Saturday Evening Banquet

This year's banquet will take place at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Specifically, we will be dining in Rivera Court, surrounded by Diego Rivera's masterful mural project Detroit Industry. The cost of the banquet ($45.00) includes a guided tour of the Charles Sheeler exhibit as well as a tour of the Rivera mural.

Friday Excursions

On Friday afternoon we will travel to the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. You may choose to visit either the Museum (a 12 acre indoor museum dedicated to technology, science, and culture with a strong emphasis on mobility history) or the Village (a newly renovated and redesigned outdoor space focusing on the history of everyday American life and culture). Your visit to either museum is free of charge for conference participants thanks to the generous support of The Henry Ford.

Also on Friday afternoon you may choose to take a tour of the Rouge factory. Henry Ford Museum busses will transport you from the Museum/Village to the Rouge factory. Space is limited and we will need to make reservations for conference participants so it is important to register as early as possible. The fee for this tour is $10.
