About the Lab ...

The Kochoff Foreign Language Media Lab ("the Lab") has 24 workstations (including a monitor and tutor station), a laserjet printer, an overhead LCD projector and a tv viewing area. In the Editing Room (3094 CASL), which is next door to the Lab, foreign language movies can be viewed. Student lab assistants monitor the Lab and provide assistance to visitors.

Foreign language faculty and student tutors (in Arabic, French, German and Spanish) are available on a walk-in basis (or if necessary, by appointment).
Tutor schedules are available at the Monitor desk.

Voice Recording Software

A digital media software system which allows students to record, play and save, has been installed on designated workstations. This system creates a graphical waveform of the recording in the track window which allows students to visually compare their speech with that of native speakers. Bookmarks are designed to mark point segments in the recording for easy return access. The recording can be saved to an audio file and replayed at another time.

Foreign Language Educational TV Programs via Satellite are now available in the Lab!

The Lab now receives Arabic, French, German and Spanish television stations via satellite. A tv has been set up to allow up to 5 students to watch and listen with headsets to a program in the Lab. Students may sign up for 30 minute time slots at the Front desk.
