  UNDERGRADUATE CASL MINORS


MINORS possible for CASL Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science Studies

  • A student may declare a minor(completed or not) at the CASL Office of Advising and Student Records. A final audit will be conducted at the time of graduation. Any posted minor that has not been successfully completed will be deleted from the student's transcript.



  • A minimum GPA of 2.00 must be achieved for each minor. The GPA for CASL minors is based on all upper(300 - 499; 3000 - 4000) level coursework taken in the discipline of the minor. The GPA for the CIS minor is based on CIS 125, 150, 175, 200, and all upper level CIS courses. The GPA for the Management minor is based on MIS 120, MIS 210 (if taken), ACC 297/298, ACC 299(if taken), and all upper level courses offered by the School of Management.



  • The minors listed below are different from the teaching minors offered through the School of Education. Only teaching minors satisfy state teacher certification requirements. For more information about teaching minors, please contact the School of Education (313 - 593 - 5090).

Prerequisite: SPEE 101

15 hours of approved upper level coursework. Nine of the 15 must be taken in one of the four tracks listed below. The remaining 6 hours must be taken from any of the other three tracks or from the list of other approved courses.

NOTE: Of the total 15 hours, 3 hours must be a Speech course and 3 hours must be a Communications writing intensive course. Writing intensive courses are identified by an asterisk(*).

15 credit hours from: OB 354; MKT 352; plus three courses from at least two disciplines from ACC 299, or any 300 - 400 level courses offered by the School of Management.

* Students not enrolled in the B.B.A program(in the School of Management) cannot elect and/or tranfer more than 30 credit hours of coursework in disciplines offered by the School of Management. The only Management courses excluded from this policy are DS 300 and BE 353.

Note:

  • There may be prerequisites to the upper division courses. This is especially true for the foreign language, management, sciences, mathematics and computer minors.

  • Only 3 hours of transfer, independent study, internship, or "S/E" credits may be used to fulfill the requirements for a 12 credit hour minor. only 6 hours of such credit may be used in a 15 hour minor. To clarify this, a minimum of 9 hours of regular classroom coursework must be taken at UM-Dearborn in each minor.

  • No hours transfered from a community college and no lower divison courses from a four year institution may be included in the upper level hours required for any minor.

  • Courses applied to a major may not be applied to a minor.

  • The student must petition for recognition of a minor. Minors are not automatically granted. Declaration of Minor forms are available in your unit's Advising Office.

  • Courses elected P/F (Pass/Fail) cannot be used in minor.
