is the lecture course which may be taken separately.
The second number is the optional lab course which may
be taken with the lecture. Courses listed without a
"+" require that both the lecture and lab
be taken. Both BIOL 103&105 must be taken to meet
the Biological and Physical Sciences requirement. That
is, neither of these courses will individually count
toward the requirement. NSCI 120 and BIOL 100 (or BIOL
100+101) may not be used together to meet the Biological
and Physical Sciences requirement.

Note: All undergraduate students admitted
or re-admitted to CASL for Fall 2004, or thereafter, will be required to
take (normally at UM-D) an approved 3-credit hour diversity
course in order to graduate.
The purpose of the Diversity Requirement is to help students
engage with important issues pertaining to racial and ethnic
diversity, religious diversity, social class, gender, sexual
orientation, age, ability/disability status, and global issues.
Diversity courses, when appropriate, may also be used to
satisfy a distribution requirement or a requirement for a
major, minor, area of focus, or cognate.
Students may choose any course from the above list of
UM-D courses (approved by the CASL Curriculum Committee)
on global issues, national issues, or both. (Courses appearing
in the Schedule of Classes, which have been approved
as Diversity Courses are identified as such in the "Comments" section
below each course listing.)
Transfer students please note: transfer
courses may not automatically be used to satisfy the Diversity
requirement. If you have questions, please see a CASL advisor.
TOTAL DISTRIBUTION = 45-48 CREDIT HOURS
Former CASL Honors students may use Western Culture 261 or 262
toward the History or Letters requirements; Western Culture
263 or 264 toward the Behavioral and Social Analysis (Group
A or B) requirement; or Western Culture 262 or 263 toward
the Arts requirement.
These courses may or may not fulfill distribution requirements
in other UM-D units.
First year seminar courses are only open to newly admitted
Fall freshmen. Any one first year seminar course may be used
to satisfy only one requirement.
