Department of Behavioral SciencesDepartment Introduction and Mission Statement It
is the mission of the Department of Behavioral Sciences to establish
and
maintain excellence in its teaching, research, and service activities
as
it serves the needs of its various constituencies. To this end, the
department:
(1) Has developed curricula, established instructional programs, and
undergraduate
degree programs in Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, and in the
interdisciplinary
areas of Behavioral Sciences and Health Policy Studies. We also teach
(but
do not offer a degree in) Geography courses; (2) Encourages and
supports
faculty research and scholarship; (3) Works cooperatively with other
academic
units on the campus to provide programs and courses; (4) Offers its
expertise
in a variety of service activities to the campus; (5) Strives to
increase
contact with the large community, recognizing its importance in the
fulfillment
of our educational mission; and (6) Serves various constituencies of
students
beyond its own concentrators, including those in special programs such
as CASL Honors, Women's Studies, Environmental Studies, REACH, and many
College-wide and University outreach programs.
